Many of us grew up reading fairy tales as children. However, fairy tales aren't just for children, and the themes still resonate today in feature films, graphic novels, video games, and contemporary literature. This class will provide an overview of the oral traditions that led to the development of fairy tales and legends around the world, some common tropes and themes, and analyses of several versions of the same classic fairy tales. Students will have the option to write their own “fractured” fairy tale to share during the last session of the class.
