Together, you will uncover the powerful stories of Americans who fought to achieve and protect civil rights. Join us to learn about the civil rights struggle in Montgomery County, Washington, D.C., and other significant areas throughout the United States. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, you will travel to Washington, D.C., via the Metro to explore key Civil Rights locations. Potential field trip destinations include the National Museum of African American History and Culture and relevant sections of the Smithsonian American History Museum. Get ready to dive deep into the legacy of the Civil Rights Movement! You will choose a topic of interest to create a fact sheet and presentation, focusing on using this knowledge to advocate for change in your community. Please note that field trip locations may change based on museum and building closures. This camp session has been approved by MCPS for 10 Student Service Learning (SSL) hours, making it a meaningful way to engage with history while earning service credits! In partnership with Milner Educational Consulting.
