The United States Congress is a remarkable law-making body that plays a crucial role in shaping our nation. In this exciting camp, you will explore how the legislative branch creates laws and examine the contributions of iconic congressional leaders who have demonstrated extraordinary leadership throughout American history. You will gain a deeper understanding of the legislative process and these leaders' impact on our country through engaging activities and discussions. Join us as we delve into the fascinating world of Congress! On Tuesdays and Thursdays, you will travel to Washington, D.C., via the Metro to explore significant areas of the city influenced by Congress. Potential field trip locations may include the US Congressional building and the Library of Congress, with lunch at the Madison building. You will select a congressman or woman and create a presentation educating the community and peers about their leadership; select a national law that has changed how Americans work and live; or investigate how a bill becomes a law and Congress's process to implement new legislation. This camp session has been approved by MCPS for 10 Student Service Learning (SSL) hours, providing you with an enriching experience while earning service credits. Take part in this incredible journey through our nation's legislative history in partnership with Milner Educational Consulting!
