September 6, 2026, is Montgomery County's "semiquincentennial" -- its 250th birthday (making it just a few months younger than the country). To state the obvious, our county has undergone tremendous change over the course of its history. Once overwhelmingly rural and agricultural, then increasingly suburban, it is now highly urbanized in many spots and leads the nation in its population diversity. Taught by a member of the Speakers Bureau of Montgomery History, the county's historical society, this course will sketch major themes of our county's evolution and development through an array of vintage photos, maps, and other images.
