Art Nouveau-a style that is characterized by sinuous, organic lines. It flourished in Scotland, Austria, Belgium, France, Spain, Germany and the US from around 1890-1910. Think Antonio Gaudi and La Sagrada Familia or the lamps of Louis Comfort Tiffany. We’ll explore the different ways architects and artists interpreted the style in buildings, posters, jewelry, glass, and paintings. Credit for originating this style is usually attributed to William Morris (1834-1896), but Victor Horta, Gustav Klimt, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Alphonse Mucha, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, and Margaret Macdonald were the major contributors.
