Discover how intersectional identities and language are transformed into both medium and subject. Text-based art commands a unique space where words become more than just communication tools; it acts as visual expression, blurring the line between language, image, performance, print, installation, and post-conceptual realms of integrating narrative. Class is open to all students and will engage in group writing exercises, identity-based inquiry, critique, and interdisciplinary approaches. Whether the outcome is a prop, artifact, manifesto, joke, letter, declaration, command, vow, script, slogan, poem, spoken word, instruction, story, or song, the artist will use their own voice while exploring the aesthetic qualities of typography, linguistic formats, repetition, and structure.
