History has always had more heroines than it cares to admit. This course celebrates the Jewish women who defied the odds across the ages — from Deborah and Esther in the ancient world to medieval scholars, Cold War spies, Nobel Prize winners, and heads of state. We explore how Jewish women navigated persecution, prejudice, and expectation to leave their mark on science, literature, politics, and espionage. Their stories are extraordinary—and many times, these heroines remain unsung.
