Have you ever wondered why watermelon reminds you of hot summer days, why you remember certain birthdays, or how optical illusions trick your mind? Dive into the captivating field of psychology in this hands-on class! You’ll explore the regions of the brain by constructing models and discovering how our five senses work through interactive experiments. Create your own optical illusions, delve into the stages of sleep, and uncover the meanings behind your dreams. Learn effective memory enhancement techniques and discover ways to train both people and pets. We will also examine human behavior in various situations and explore strategies to boost your happiness. This introductory course is perfect for high school students interested in psychology and will equip you with valuable skills for success in high school and AP Psychology. As part of the camp, you will conduct a research project focused on mental health issues in our community and create a poster to raise awareness. Plus, you’ll earn 10 Student Service Learning (SSL) hours approved by MCPS. Instructor: Jennifer Bauer, MCPS AP Psychology Teacher
