Have you ever wondered how the personalities and events of the past shaped the communities we live in today? Dive into the history of Montgomery County and explore what made a local leader, as well as the key events that influenced the cultural fabric of our hometowns. What role did slavery play? How were neighborhoods formed, and who were the people who lived in them? Delve into topics like the racial makeup of Chevy Chase in the early 20th century, the history of the Du-Drop Inn in Emory Grove, and the stories preserved within the Agricultural Reserve. You’ll also have the opportunity to research a lesser-known individual connected to Montgomery County to understand their impact on the community. Then, create a presentation that serves as your call to action: How will you use what you’ve learned to become an advocate for positive change in your community? This camp is approved by MCPS for 10 Student Service Learning (SSL) hours. Instructor: Julie Priddy, Montgomery College faculty.
