This 90-hour course serves as the required lab (40 hours) and clinical externship (50 hours) part of the Clinical Medical Assistant Program. Focus will be on the clinical responsibilities of the medical office; assisting the physician with patient contact and related care; preparing patients for examination and treatment; routine laboratory procedures and diagnostic testing; HIPAA and patient confidentiality; the legal aspects of healthcare and related regulatory issues; recording and taking vital signs, blood pressure, and other patient care items related to the physicians office visit; review and administration of medications, allergies, and other pharmacology related items; laboratory procedures; phlebotomy and the proper techniques to collect specimens for laboratory analysis; and cardiology and the proper placement of leads when taking a 12 lead EKG. To be eligible for this course, you must be enrolled in and/or have successfully completed the 96-hour classroom program, submit to a thorough background check and drug screening, and meet other requirements. Upon successful completion of both courses, you would be eligible to sit for the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) national examination.
