Do you ever wonder what personalities and events helped formulate what we witness today in our communities? Digging in to the history of Montgomery County, discover what a locate leader looked like and what events determined the culture make up of our home towns. What role did slavery play? How were neighborhoods created, and most importantly, who were the people who lived in them? Come explore topics such as the racial makeup of Chevy Chase in the early 20th century, the history of the Du-Drop Inn in Emory Grove, explore the Agricultural Reserve and the stories it preserves and more. You will research a lesser-known individual associated with Montgomery County to understand their impact on the community. You will then create a presentation that is your call-to-action. How will you take what you learn to be an advocate in your community? MCPS has approved this camp for 10 Student Service Learning (SSL) hours. Instructor: Robert Barnes, MCPS teacher
